Subject: A huge note of thanks!
To my fellow conservatives,
Up until Monday October 11, 2004 I was dead set a Bush fan and was going to vote a straight ticket. As a Christian, I've always heard and seen Bush talk about his faith and was impressed and convinced that he was following the path of Conservative Christianity closely. Politically, I thought he was doing a great job what with the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, and with the economy. Yes, I was a Bush fan. That is, was.
A gentleman in my office that I've known for a long time had this button on for Peroutka for President. I initially laughed at him telling him he had no chance of winning the election. While that was true, I was failing to see a huge point that he was making. That is, are you going to vote for what's really right, or are you going to vote for the candidate you think will win? Well, I decided to take him up on the offer of reading Michael Peroutka's website, which in turn linked me to the Constitution Party's site.
For that first day, I was unusually quiet as I started to read news story after news story about the man that I thought was a good Christian, a great politician and a champion of Conservatism, but only to find out that I had been majorly duped all this time. I started to cringe when I read that our President, a self proclaimed Christian, bowed to a dragon statue in Japan, a clear violation of God's law. A President who is out of control on his spending. A President who is wishy washy on gun rights. And what brought me to this revelation? The US Constitution.
I admit that I thought I knew the whole Constitution pretty well, but when I actually started reading it more critically, I discovered that I really didn't know it well enough. When I saw that I'm being taxed illegally, when I saw where in our own Constitution it clearly says that no one can have their life denied without due process of law, I realized that the so-called "conservative" justices that sit on the Supreme Court are not doing their job. I even realized that being taught all these years that they are appointed to life is not even in the Constitution! It was indeed a revelation.
However, the biggest thing that I will share with you was the fact that on that Sunday, I gave a sermon in church saying that we as Christians should vote for someone who is a true Christian and who believes everything in the Bible to be true. I then reflected back to the marriage amendment and how there was a provision for "civil unions", which I detested before knowing about this party. I thought to myself that "If Bush truly is abhorring evil, then why support civil unions which essentially is marriage when he knows that's against God's Law?" "How could he bow before another statue just to smooth diplomatic waters?" At that moment a stirring in my spirit came and I realized that as much of a Bush fan that I was, if I were to vote for a man whom I now saw his fruits as being evil, I would be a hypocrite and could never stand in the pulpit again. That is just something I refuse to let happen. I will not sell out God or the morals that he engrained in me just to be on the winning team.
When going back to the question previously mentioned, "Are you going to vote for what's right, or just who you think has a greater chance of winning, regardless of if they compromise their beliefs?", I realized that it's time to start voting for what's right. Vote my convictions and moreover, vote for someone who will upkeep the Constitution. I haven't stopped reading this website's copy of the documents provided, because I want my education on the Constitution to be ongoing and solid. I was wrong about George Bush and didn't realize it, but now I see the light. Therefore, come Election Day, I will be writing in the State of Texas ballot Michael Peroutka for President, and send a message to the Republican National Committee that I will not be misled anymore. Thank you Constitution Party for being here. I thank God and Jesus Christ that I found you before I made a terrible mistake.
Sincerely,
Hunter Bonner
