This month's meeting will feature, among other things, a review and discussion of HR 3799, the Constitution Restoration Act of 2004 (see full text below). Florida based radio talk show host, Chuck Baldwin, has called this "the most important legislation in the last fifty years". This bill, which is considered to have a realistic chance of passage, would rein in the out of control federal courts in matters of religion. Among other things, the bill would prohibit the federal judiciary from interfering with any expression of religious faith by any elected local, state, or federal official. Those present for the announcement of the bill to the press included such figures as former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, Alan Keyes, Phyllis Schlafly and Howard Phillips.
Come learn about this important and potentially historic piece of legislation and join us in a discussion of how this and other current events relate to our Constitution.
Some of the questions we will be discussing include:
- What is the purpose of this bill?
- Does this bill reverse Supreme Court precedent?
- Does the CRA promote an establishment of religion?
- Does the CRA deny other faiths in America ?
- What are the practical effects of CRA on pending legislation?
- Does the CRA affect the religious test provisions of Article VI?
- What is the strength of the CRA?
- What is the meaning of "acknowledgment of God" in the CRA?
- How does the CRA affect each and every individual?
