Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP)
and
North American Union (NAU)
Resistance Update
In March of 2005, without Congressional approval or oversight, President Bush unilaterally committed the U.S. to the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP), an agreement that would, for all practical purposes, amalgamate the United States into a North American Union with Canada and Mexico. Now, through bills in both the U.S. Congress and the Washington State Senate, we have an opportunity to "Just Say NO!" to the North American Union.
IN THE WASHINGTON STATE LEGISLATURE
In the Washington State Legislature, Senators Stevens, Swecker and
Benton have sponsored SJM
8004
, calling on the President of the United States,
the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the House and the
members of Congress, to withdraw the U.S. from participation in the
SPP. While passage of SJM 8004 seems like a no brainer, don't count on
it when politicians are involved. Our country's sovereignty and your
freedom are at stake. Call and/or email your State Senator and demand
that they take action to defend your freedom and pass SJM 8004 (click

While you are at it, you can contact the Senate committee on Economic Development, Trade and Management and request their passage of SJM 8004, thereby bringing it back to the Senate to be voted on. Senators serving on this committee are (click on Senators names to get contact info):
- Jim Kastama
- Chair (D) - Derek Kilmer
- Vice Chair (D) - Joseph Zarelli
- Ranking Minority Member (R) - Jim Clements
(R) - Claudia
Kauffman
(D) - Paull Shin

IN THE U.S. CONGRESS
A similar resolution has been introduced in the U.S. Congress. House Concurrent Resolution 40
opposes
construction of a NAFTA Superhighway and any further implementation of
SPP regulations. You can click here
to sign an online petition in support of H. Con. Res. 40.
It is important that you also contact your U.S. Representative to
personally call on them to do their duty of defending our nation's
sovereignty and to rein in a President whose action in this matter has
exceeded his Constitutional authority. Click here

Representatives, then click on your representative's name to access
their web page and acquire contact info.
Last fall, a coalition of national leaders, including Constitution
Party founder Howard Phillips, formed a coalition for the purpose of
bringing public attention to these matters. The coalition hopes to make
the SPP and NAFTA Superhighway an issue in the 2008 elections. Click he

coalition and its activities.
National sovereignty is a cornerstone issue. The SPP must be exposed to the public and pressure must be put on Congress to do its duty of exercising oversight and not allowing a President to exercise unchecked totalitarian power.
You may be wondering what hope there is for passage of such legislation with Democrat majorities in both our State Legislature and the U.S. Congress. Considering it was a Republican President who initiated this action, our chances of getting Congress to overturn the SPP is probably better now than under the Republican controlled Congress that stood by while this happened.
